Google is officially bringing its Gemini AI to the Google Home ecosystem, setting an October 1st date for a full reveal. In a teaser posted to X (formerly Twitter), the company announced that “Gemini is coming to Google Home,” signaling the long-awaited replacement of Google Assistant with its more powerful generative AI. The announcement, which comes after Google first previewed the integration at its August hardware event, also teases new Nest hardware to coincide with the AI rollout.
The teaser image itself appears to feature a refreshed Nest Cam, adding fuel to widespread reports of an imminent hardware overhaul. Leaks suggest Google is preparing to launch a new generation of smart home devices, including new indoor/outdoor Nest Cams and a new Nest Doorbell, all with a resolution bump to 2K. A new “Google Home Speaker” with 360-degree sound and deep Gemini integration is also expected, alongside a rebranding of the Nest Aware subscription service to “Google Home Premium.”
The shift to Gemini promises to make the smart home assistant significantly more capable. Google says the upgrade will allow it to understand more complex and nuanced instructions, such as stringing multiple commands together or asking for creative suggestions. New AI-powered features are also expected, like “Daily Summaries” that will create a daily recap of recorded events from Nest security devices. The upgrade will roll out to both new and existing Google smart speakers and displays.
